I find Public Art an exciting challenge yet quite nerve wracking at the same time, almost like bearing your soul for all to see. With your work being out there on Public view you have to be prepared for comments good or bad as everyone will have an opinion, it's not just like working for a single client.

The thrill you feel when you see your work in a Public space and the fact that it will be there for all to see for years to come, can not be matched. I like the idea that I'm playing a part in the visual enhancement of an area whilst creating a talking point for the Public.

McWilliam Memorial Sculpture

The sculpture depicts a sailing ship very much like the one's which would have been built by my relatives in the 1800's, sailing into the waves which then flow into the image of a leaning shop. The McWilliam Bros. store was built from the timbers of the last ship to be built by the Mcwilliam's and stood at the harbour side until 2001 when it was demolished. It was nicknamed the "listed building" as it leant into the street, the cause being the years of battling against the wind and tides. The amber glass behind the window makes it appear as though the light is on, John McWilliam's shop was open all hours!
