I find Public Art an exciting challenge yet quite nerve wracking at the same time, almost like bearing your soul for all to see. With your work being out there on Public view you have to be prepared for comments good or bad as everyone will have an opinion, it's not just like working for a single client.
The thrill you feel when you see your work in a Public space and the fact that it will be there for all to see for years to come, can not be matched. I like the idea that I'm playing a part in the visual enhancement of an area whilst creating a talking point for the Public.
Dolphins Away!
One of the largest sculptures I have made so far; the total height of the piece was 16ft, 4ft of which had to be buried in the ground. The anchor with leaping dolphins was commissioned by Cleethorpes in Bloom for the Dolphin Gardens in Cleethorpes.
Festival
One of a number of sculptures commissioned by Cleethorpes in Bloom, to be found at the sea front gardens along the Kingsway at the holiday resort of Cleethorpes.
Forty Winks
Another sculpture found along the Kingsway at Cleethorpes which has proved popular with both locals and tourists. Have spotted a number of people having a sneaky sit in it!
McWilliam Memorial Sculpture
A piece of work very close to my heart. I was asked by the Community of the Isle of Whithorn in Scotland to create a piece of work in memory of my late relative John McWilliam Harbour Master/ shopkeeper and McWilliam Bros. Shipbuilders. The Sculpture is situated on the sailing club wall opposite the site where the McWilliam shop once stood. The idea for the design came to me quite suddenly and I drew it out on the back of a phone bill. The piece was supposed to capture the feeling of flow.
